I remodled a home office and purchased several pieces of this "do it yourself" furniture. This piece was by far the biggest disappointment. Pros - thick (1.5" !) top and sides, nice width so your legs don't bang into the drawers, drawers can be mounted to either side. The color is nice, desk itself seems heavy & sturdy. Cons - the cheap vinyl finish! For a desk this sturdy, the finish is absolutely feeble. Will flake & scratch quite easily. Drawers are also extremely flimsy and the top drawer is too shallow to fit a CD or DVD, which is annoying. Also, because it's heavy and tall, it is very wobbly on plush carpet. Won't be as much of a factor on hardwood floors. Plus, at 30" high, it's not ideal for a computer desk unless you have a raised chair or are very tall. Also, the assembly took FOREVER. Seriously, this thing must have over 150 screws. The instructions were quite complicated and sometimes counter-intuitive (no written instructions, just pictures and diagrams.) With the big glass top I was a little worried. The picture instructions were easy to follow and we had it put together quickly. I was looking for something with drawers to hide the stuff that collects on top of the table and these were perfect. I am very pleased with my purchase. Also not that easy to assemble since it doesn't have clear instructions or has the pieces labeled which side is up or down. Two hours plus to put it together, and the instructions are a bit difficult to follow, but can be figured out. No real wood in the desk, and the drawer bottoms are cardboard, but are pretty sturdy. As long as I don't spill water in them, they should be OK. The drawers are on very smooth glides, and the assembled desk looks very nice. The package includes some extra parts and a touch-up pen. All in all, I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it to a friend. First of all, this desk looks really nice and has all the features that I wanted in a desk. It has large drawers, an open space on the upper-right below the top to place things that can still be easy to grab yet don't take up desk space. It is a really nice design in the layout respect. Looks-wise, The desktop is a rich brownish (not good at explaining colors) wood that contrasts the black nicely while still matching with the black-theme of the room that it is in. The handles on the drawers are very stylish (rustic looking) and the drawers are butter-smooth. The one MAJOR downfall is that the wood is NOT treated. This results in 2 issues. First, the desktop bubbles up. I use it as a surface for my computer's mouse and if I run my hand across the area that I use it in, it feels rough with small bumps throughout.
