It is perfect for this purpose. I took a spare dining room chair out of one of my bedroom closets and painted it black then bought a piece of glass to put over the top to keep it from getting scratched ($35). I bought the bentwood chair pad from Amazon to put in the chair that I painted and it looks fantastic and functions great. I can see this lasting for a very, very long time. I am very pleased with the desk. I would like to say that w/o the glass, the wood on top of the desk is not very smooth at all. The grain is very apparent and if you plan on using it for writing purposes, I would suggest a glass top.
