1.0 out of 5 stars perfect size, awful quality, January 16, 2011

We want a product that looks like this and of this size but believe this product is so poorly built that it is not worth buying. Avoid!

Amazon was great. We ordered and the box arrived without any signs of damage. We started to unpack it and my wife noticed that an edge had broken off the top table. The particle board at the broken area was flaking badly which made it unacceptable as a new product. Alright, transport problems happen. We took pictures and decided to return to amazon.

After talking it over, we decided that to continue to build the table since the size was perfect and the finish looked okay. Our plan was to contact the manufacturer for a new top and/or talk to Amazon to replace one with a broken edge. A few seconds later we got to the smaller top and one side literally fell off before we even touched it! The side has split as a result of the wood screws the manufacturer used to connect the side to the top. This was no damage but rather very,very... Read more

Item arrived in great shape. Assembly was slightly problematic given that the provided allen wrench was of low quality and stripped before I had the screws all the way in. Please note that the provided screw head was fine and did not strip. I found another one in my allen wrench collection from another furniture assembly product that did the trick.

I'm even using a non-rolling chair with the desk which I thought would be problematic, but I just push the desk back instead. Works great!

This desk was just the right size and would accomadate my needs. It took about thirty minutes to assemble, not bad at all. The only problem was the hex tool was really inadequate. It was a good thing I had another to complete the job. The desk has a nice finish and is attractive. My daughter in law ordered a Pottery Barn desk just a few days ago and by comparison I'd say this desk is just as efficient and a heck of a lot cheaper.

I bought this for my 9 year old daughter's tiny room. She absolutely loves it -- it is pretty, and what nine year old girl doesn't like a little desk with cubbies that tucks away into the wall? But if you are planning to buy, you should be aware of the following points:
1. This desk is HEAVY, and MUST be secured to studs. In our case, there was exactly one place in my daughter's room where the desk could go, and it didn't line up with the studs. So, we had to purchase 2 lengths of 1x4 and secure those to the studs and screw the desk to the 1x4s -- with the result that the ends of the wood are visible sticking out from behind the desk. We painted them so it is not so noticeable, but still.
2. Once down, the desk itself has a maximum recommended weight of 20lbs. This has not been a problem for my daughter, but I would be leery of letting a smaller child around it who might try to climb or lean on it.
3. The desk is not pure white -- it is off white.
4. If you... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamite Desk!!, March 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I am a home-interiors freak and this was probably the most awesome thing I have ever bought!!! It's very functional, space-conserving, and well-made. I put this in my daughter's room so she could have a desk/workspace when she needed one, but fold it back up and not have it take up space in the room. I will probably purchase another one for my rec room too!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very simple, elegant desk. Much sturdier than expected., May 9, 2011

The only reason this product did not get 5 stars is because of screw holes not quite lining up, and instructions that could cause problems if you don't have experience assembling this type of unit.

First off Kudos to Amazon. Even with super saver shipping I had this desk at my doorstep less than 72 hours after ordering, and a full 5 days before the "estimated arrival date".

The glass is 1/4" thick and beveled, that sounds thin, but it is much heavier and seems much sturdier than I had expected (it is tempered). The dimensions of 51"(outside edge of each "L") x20"(depth of each side) x30" tall are pretty close to accurate. I uploaded a couple of images of the tape measure showing the depth and length of each side not counting the corner connector.

Installation took about an hour and a half. Be warned before you start, the instructions throw around terms like "tighten screws with wrench 'I'" starting at step 2. DON'T DO THAT. I can't stress that... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Looks great but..., March 23, 2010
By
First, I love the way this desk looks, it's sturdy and the glass is thicker than I had anticipated, which is a plus for me, because I wasn't sure it would hold up my heavy Printer and CPU, but it does just that.

The desk is smaller than my old desk, which was a bit hard to get used to, but I managed to store a lot of my things elsewhere, which actually makes my area look cleaner, so it's not all bad. If you need a lot of room, choose another desk.

One of the problems I had with this desk that it was harder to put together than I expected it would be. I found it difficult to line up the screw holes to get the glass to fit together in the L-shape, and the leg connections have plastic fittings, so if you tighten the screw too tight, they may crack, which I found out the hard way. Oy!

The thing that bothered me most about the desk, is the keyboard tray. The sliders were (in my opinion) designed and built very poorly. The tiny bearings inside the sliders... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Great looking desk... hard to assemble due to misalignment., August 12, 2010

This desk looks absolutely great. I know that I complain about assembly in the title, let me elaborate:

- 98% of the desk is easy to assemble... instructions are very straight forward but...

- Do you see the curved metal frame in the picture? The one that links together the two mini-desks to make the L-shape? That thing was a nightmare to put together, the holes where the screws go to join the desks to the curved frame are misaligned. I had to take a hammer and try to align them by a couple millimeters... I was praying I didn't damage the frame itself, but no, it was a bold move but it did payoff... I managed to barely align the screw holes and the DESK DOES LOOKS GREAT!!!
